Old Kidzui on my login....New one on kids login
I haven't seen this issue yet, so hopefully someone can shed some light.
I installed KidZui on a new PC a few days ago. The PC is running Windows 7 Ultimate.
I have an administrator login for myself, and a limited account for my girls.
When I run KidZui under my login, I get the traditional Zui screen with logins (this is what I want)
When I run KidZui under my girls' login, I get the 'new improved' KidZui, with no logins.
This baffles me, because it is the same program, but runs differently on the two logins on my system.
Just for fun, I decided to try & run KidZui on my girls login as an administrator - this worked! The Zui screen came up as expected. The problem here is, every time they want to run the program, either myself or my wife would need to punch in our password.
Just to make things MORE interesting, I also have KidZui on my personal PC, which ALSO runs Win7 Ultimate, and which ALSO has the same login setup as stated above (one admin acct for me, one limited acct for my girls). On this system, KidZui launches with the Zui window on BOTH accounts with no need to run as admin.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled several times, making SURE I downloaded the 'old, classic' KidZui version - but I'll be darned if I can figure out why the other PC has this 'different version' issue.
Can you suggest anything else I might try to preclude having to run KidZui in admin mode on my other computer to get the desired Zui login screen?
Thanks in advance.

Hello pbrauers,
That's definitely a strange issue, and one that we haven't heard of before! Our best guess at this point is that you had originally installed the new version of KidZui on your computer, and a couple files had been left behind when you uninstalled and then installed the original KidZui. To help us try and figure out why two different versions of KidZui are displaying, can you please provide the version numbers for each instance of KidZui? Here's where you'll find them:
The Original KidZui: Click on the Help button on the login screen, and you'll find the version number in the lower-left corner.
The New KidZui: Click on the Child Age button (to the left of the exit button), and you should see the version number in the lower-right corner.
Thanks for your help, and we apologize for the confusion!
Dustin

Dustin,
Thanks for the quick response.
The version number for the OLD version is: 5.0.188-6216
The version number for the NEW version is: 5.0.188-6217
You are correct in saying that I had the 'new' version installed before discovering & reinstalling the old version...but I did do an uninstall prior to installing the old version. Therefore, my best guess is that there was likely something leftover in the registry from my install of the 'new' version. Perhaps you can point me to where KidZui makes registry changes, then I can uninstall, clean the registry, and try again to install the 'old' version?
Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter,
While the uninstall will remove most of the files associated with KidZui, if the browser is run under multiple Windows logins, some files may remain in that login's Users folder. We think that KidZui is detecting these files and continuing to use the new version, despite having re-installed the classic version of the browser. You can try removing these files manually, then logging into your child's Windows ID and launching KidZui again. Hopefully this will allow your child to use the classic version. If the new version continues to load, you may need to remove and re-install KidZui again, making sure to clear the files from the Users folder again before returning to your child's account and launching KidZui.
You can locate the files by navigating through the following folders:
Your Hard Drive > Users > your child's user id > AppData > Roaming > KidZui
Please note that you will need to display hidden folders to access the AppData folder, which you can do by clicking the Organize button and selecting Folder and search options. When the Folder Options window opens, click the View tab, and enable the Show hidden files, folders and drives option.
Please let us know if the above suggestion doesn't work.
Thanks,
Dustin

Dustin,
That solved the problem. The leftovers in the AppData were what was causing the strangeness. Thanks so much for your help!

Glad to hear, Peter! Just out of curiosity, why did your family choose to use the classic version of KidZui instead of the new version?
Enjoy!

Dustin,
The kids LOVE their Zui's, and they've put considerable time & effort into getting them to look the way they want. They were VERY disappointed when the new version didn't have their Zui's...so I was quite happy that the classic version was available to us. When they got home from school today, I told them I'd 'fixed' KidZui, they were absolutely thrilled. I understand what ya'll were trying to accomplish with the new version, but my kids have been using KidZui for over 2 years now, and they LOVE being able to dress their Zui's...I think it was somewhat shortsighted to eliminate them from the new version, but that's just my opinion.
Take care, and thanks again for your help.
Peter

Peter,
Thanks very much for your feedback. We definitely understood that removing features wouldn't be a popular move with our existing users, and it was a decision that we gave a lot of thought to before moving forward. While we're concentrating on making the core web browsing experience the best we possibly can at this point in time, we are open to incorporating certain features from the classic version of KidZui into the new version in the future. We're planning on integrating some of our existing parental control features into the new browser in the upcoming weeks, after which we may look at bringing back Zui characters.
Thanks again for your honest feedback! We find opinions such as yours to be extremely valuable!
Have a great day,
Dustin
